A passion for the game.
I’ve always wondered what in a fan makes us feel like we have more passion than a player on the court, field, arena, or thunderdome. It would seem, like any job a player can’t be invested in it 100% all the time. A fan however somehow, someway tends to be invested 100% of the time.. a true fan, win or lose is there for their team.
That’s why I was so surprised originally at Mike Bibby’s comments a couple weeks ago about the Celtics fanbase, sure, there are always new fans that come through when a team starts to do better, but a team with 16 championships and a storied history is hardly built on just those types of fans.
Watching the games this weekend that took place in ‘The Palace’ I was suprised at how silent the fanbase was for both of the games, whether ahead or behind. In game 3, in the 3rd quarter during a possible surge, they barely uttered but one chant of ‘Defense’.
I’d rather have bandwagon fans I guess, if they are excited. Than what I saw this weekend. I never want to be that type of fan.
